Ameristar Windows & Doors: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

If you have an Ameristar window or door with a failed part, you’re looking for two things: the right replacement and a real price. In Dallas, Ameristar-compatible replacement parts installed by us typically run $180 to $640 depending on the component. Most owners discover the failure the way you just did: a window that won’t stay up, a door that drags, or a lock that stopped catching clean. You can usually see the problem before you know what to call it. That’s where a parts page like this earns its keep.

The telltale picture is familiar. A double-hung window drops when you let go of the sash. A sliding door sounds like gravel when you roll it. The handle spins but the latch doesn’t move. You look up the brand, find Ameristar, and then find a maze of model numbers and series names. What you need is someone in Dallas who can identify the part, match it to the generation of Ameristar product you own, and install it without turning a $40 balance shoe into a $900 window replacement.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar has produced windows and doors across several series lines over the years, and the parts are not universal. The three most common generations we see in Dallas homes are the single-hung and double-hung vinyl windows from the mid-2000s through about 2015, a builder-grade sliding glass door line from the same window, and a newer architectural series with stainless steel roller hardware. Each has its own balance system, latch geometry, and roller profile.

How to identify what you have: find the AAMA certification sticker, usually on the top of the upper sash or on the door edge. It carries a date code and a model designation. If the sticker is gone, measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest 1/8 inch, then look at the corner. Ameristar welds its vinyl corners differently across series. Older frames have a wide, flat weld bead. Newer ones have a narrow bead with a slight ridge. That single detail narrows the parts catalog fast.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question, our position is specific. For balances, locks, and keepers, Ameristar OEM is the default because the tolerances are tighter than universal aftermarket kits. For rollers on sliding doors, quality aftermarket units with sealed ball bearings routinely outlast the originals, and we install them without hesitation. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when a window or door issue turns out to be a sill, jamb, or casing problem tied to cabinetry or countertop work.

Signs Your Ameristar Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Double-hung sash drops when released. The balance shoe has stripped or the spiral balance rod lost tension. On Dallas A-frames and brick ranches from the 1990s and 2000s, we see this most often on west-facing windows where afternoon heat cycles the plastic parts hard.
  • Sliding door grinds or binds. The roller wheel is flat-spotted or the outer race has packed with North Texas dust. The track usually looks fine, which fools owners into lubricating when they should be replacing.
  • Lock turns a full 360 degrees. The tailpiece on the cylinder broke off or the keeper mounting screws pulled out of the frame. On Ameristar doors, the keeper screws are short, and repeated slamming works them loose in the internal steel stiffener.
  • Window won’t lock because of a 1/8-inch gap. The sash has dropped out of square, usually a balance issue. Forcing the lock just strips the keeper and doubles your parts bill.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. The IGU seal failed. That’s not a part we swap; that’s a glass unit replacement. But we flag it because owners often mistake a failed balance for a failed window. One is $200, the other is $500 plus.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

In Dallas, plan on these installed ranges:

  • Balance replacement (per window): $220 to $400, including both balances and the pivot bar if needed.
  • Sliding door roller replacement (per panel): $280 to $520, including new rollers, threshold cleanup, and track adjustment.
  • Lock and keeper replacement: $180 to $340, depending on whether we’re replacing the cylinder or just the keeper and tailpiece.
  • Full hardware set for a sliding door: $480 to $640, including handle set, keeper, and both panel rollers.

Every price includes the part, labor, and removal of the old component. If we open the window or door and find the frame itself has failed, we’ll stop and show you before ordering anything. The written price you get before we start is the price you pay. If a part fails within a year of installation, the 365-Day Done Right Promise sends us back at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard: the guarantee is in writing, in your hand, at close of the job.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can check safely: remove the inside stop, look at the balance shoe, and take a photo. On sliding doors, lift the panel and look at the roller condition through the bottom channel. Don’t try to replace a spiral balance yourself. Those are under spring tension, and when the rod releases unexpectedly, it has enough force to take a chip out of a vinyl window or a finger. Same goes for the heavy panel on a sliding glass door. Lifting a 70-pound sash out of its track while leaning over the threshold is how backs get thrown out and glass gets shattered.

If the parts are standard and you’re comfortable, a handle set swap is a fair weekend task. Everything else on this list, we do in an afternoon. Call (903) 326-8963, describe what you’re seeing, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether this looks like a $200 balance or a $500 glass unit. No charge for the assessment.
