Unilock Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Unilock paver driveway repair in Dallas typically runs $800 – $3,500 depending on how much of the base has failed, and a full Unilock driveway installation lands between $7,000 and $18,000. We stock Unilock-compatible pavers, edge restraints, bedding sand, and jointing compound, and we can usually match your existing paver style and color the same week. Most Dallas homeowners discover a problem after a heavy rain, when part of the driveway settles an inch or two, or when pavers start rocking underfoot near the curb. Bradford Remodeling Co Dallas is an independent contractor, not a Unilock dealer or affiliate, but we install and repair Unilock products to the manufacturer’s published specifications.

Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Unilock makes a lot of paver lines, and Dallas driveways mostly fall into three series types. The first is the standard 60mm paver, which includes lines like Hollandstone, Courtstone, and Brussels Block. These are the workhorse pavers you see in Preston Hollow and Richardson driveways, and they’re typically 2⅜ inches thick, laid over a 4 – 6 inch compacted base. The second is the heavier 80mm Eco-Stone permeable paver, used on driveways where Dallas code requires stormwater infiltration or where a homeowner wants to avoid standing water. The third is the smooth-faced architectural line, like U-Cara or Richcliff, which costs more and usually shows up on patios and front walkways, though some Dallas driveways in Lakewood or the Park Cities use them for a tighter, higher-end look. The compatibility gotcha to know: Unilock pavers are not interchangeable across thicknesses. A 60mm paver will not sit flush against an 80mm paver without a manufactured transition course, and cutting one down to match the other leaves an edge that chips within the first Dallas freeze-thaw cycle. When we match an existing Unilock driveway, we pull a paver, measure the actual thickness with a caliper, and identify the color code from the underside stamp before we order a single piece. For most Dallas residential driveways, the OEM Unilock paver is the right call because aftermarket alternates rarely match the color blend or the edge profile, and a mismatched driveway looks patchy from the street.

Signs Your Unilock Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Pavers rocking or shifting under your tires. The bedding sand under those pavers has washed out or compacted unevenly, usually at an edge or along a joint. This is the earliest sign, and if you catch it here, the repair is often just a lift-and-relay of a small section.
  • Visible settlement or a dip that holds water after rain. Dallas soil is mostly expansive clay, and clay moves when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries. A base that wasn’t compacted in lifts will settle, and the pavers follow it down. This is the most common failure we repair in neighborhoods like Lake Highlands and North Dallas.
  • Widening joints with sand missing between pavers. The jointing compound is gone, and every Dallas downpour washes more of it out. Left alone, the pavers start shifting and the whole surface loses its interlock.
  • Cracked or spalled pavers, especially near the driveway apron. A paver that cracks at the surface usually means water penetrated the face and froze, or a heavy vehicle delivered more weight than that base layer was built for. Spalling, where the top surface flakes off, is more common on the architectural smooth-faced lines exposed to Dallas sun and de-icing salts.
  • Edge pavers pulling away from the border. The plastic or aluminum edge restraint has failed or was never installed. Without it, the outside course of pavers pushes outward, and the whole driveway slowly spreads at the seams.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here are the Dallas price ranges we quote for Unilock driveway work:

  • Partial repair (lift, re-level, and relay a section up to 100 sq ft): $800 – $2,200
  • Full Unilock paver driveway installation: $7,000 – $18,000
  • Permeable paver driveway (Eco-Stone or similar): $10,000 – $20,000, mostly because the base is deeper and the engineering is more involved
  • Edge restraint replacement with an existing driveway: $300 – $900
  • Re-sanding and joint stabilization for a full two-car driveway: $250 – $700

What drives the spread is the current condition of the base. If the base is still structurally sound and we’re correcting surface issues, you’re at the low end. If stormwater has washed out the sub-base and we’re excavating and rebuilding it, the price moves up accordingly. Every quote we write includes the pavers, bedding sand, jointing compound, disposal of failed material, and a written line-item price before any work starts. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the repair for a full year after close-out: if the work fails inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge. That promise is in writing, on every single project.

DIY or Call Us?

What an owner can do safely: check your downspouts. If a downspout is dumping water directly onto the paver surface or into the base at the driveway edge, that’s a drainage correction you can handle with a $30 extension, and it will extend the life of the repair. What goes wrong with DIY paver repair: most people dig up the failed section, throw the old pavers back in with a bag of play sand from a box store, and call it a day. Within six months in Dallas clay, that section settles again, the joints wash out, and now the repair area is holding water worse than before. The base preparation is the job. If you want to understand how the base should be built, we’ll walk you through it on the phone, but for any repair over a few square feet, a bad base repair costs you more to re-fix than the original job. Call (903) 326-8963 and we’ll give you a straight number, real scope, no surprises on delivery day.
