Quikrete Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Quikrete fence installation in Dallas typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, and we stock the fast-setting concrete mix, hardware, and post brackets on our trucks so most jobs are done in a day or two. The post mix itself is the cheap part. What costs money is getting the old posts out, checking the frost line depth, and setting everything square the first time. Most Dallas homeowners figure out they have a problem the morning after a storm, when a gate drags or a fence section leans hard enough that the neighbor’s dog notices before you do.

We’re an independent Dallas contractor, not affiliated with Quikrete, but we install more of their post mix than anything else because it sets fast and holds in North Texas clay. Curtis Lane has been running fence-set crews in Dallas for the better part of two decades, and the failures we see are almost never the concrete itself. It’s the install: posts dropped into undersized holes, mix poured dry, or nobody checking the plumb before the mix kicked. When you call Bradford Remodeling Co Dallas, you get a straight number, real scope, no surprises on delivery day.

Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

We work with the full Quikrete post-setting line: Fast-Setting Concrete Mix, Quikrete 5000, and the standard Concrete Mix for larger post holes. The compatibility question for fence installation isn’t really about one Quikrete product versus another. It’s about bag quantity versus hole diameter, and that’s where Dallas installs go wrong if nobody does the math.

Here’s the checkable spec the box stores won’t tell you: an 8-foot cedar or pressure-treated post set 24 inches deep in a 10-inch hole needs roughly two 50-pound bags of fast-setting mix. Drop to an 8-inch hole and one bag barely covers the flare. But North Texas clay is expansive, so we actually over-dig the hole diameter to 12 inches on most Dallas jobs and use a third bag. That’s the difference between a fence that survives a wet spring and one that heaves by July. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Quikrete doesn’t make the post or the bracket, so there’s no true compatibility risk there. The real decision is the hardware. We stock Simpson Strong-Tie post bases and hot-dipped galvanized brackets on our trucks because zinc-coated hardware from a generic bin rusts through in five Dallas summers.

Signs Your Quikrete Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The post rocks when you push it. The concrete collar has separated from the post or cracked at the soil line. In Dallas clay, this usually means the original hole was too narrow or the mix was poured around a wet post that shrank as it dried.
  • The gate drags or won’t latch. The hinge post has shifted out of plumb. If you can see a gap between the concrete and the wood at ground level, the post is working loose. Tightening the hinge screws won’t fix it; the post has to be re-set or replaced.
  • Cracks running up the concrete collar. Fast-setting mix poured dry or mixed too thick develops vertical cracks within two years. It still looks solid, but water gets in, freezes during a rare Dallas cold snap, and spalls the surface. The structural hold is compromised.
  • The post is leaning but the concrete looks fine. This one shows up where the post rotted underground, usually where the original installer didn’t slope the concrete away from the post. Water pooled at the base, and the wood failed inside the collar. You’re replacing the post, not just re-setting it.
  • Fence boards pulling loose from the post along one section. The entire post assembly is rotating because the concrete footing was too shallow. Dallas code wants posts at least 24 inches deep for a 6-foot fence, and we see a lot set at 18 inches. The whole section needs to come out and get re-done at depth.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

For a typical Dallas backyard fence, full Quikrete-based fence installation runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed. The range is driven by three things: total linear footage, how many posts need to come out versus being re-set, and whether old concrete footings have to be broken up and hauled off. A straight 60-foot side fence with six posts lands near the bottom of that range. A 150-foot perimeter with a gate, old concrete to remove, and rotted posts climbs toward the top.

Every Bradford Remodeling Co Dallas bid is a written line-item price before we touch a shovel. You’ll see the bag count for Quikrete mix, the exact hardware (Simpson or equivalent, by part number), post count and size, and labor. No number moves at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s not negotiable on our jobs.

Scope Dallas Installed Price
Single post replacement (dig, set, brace) $350 – $700
4 – 6 post re-set with new Quikrete $1,500 – $3,200
60 – 100 linear feet, new fence + posts $3,500 – $5,500
Full backyard perimeter with gates $6,000 – $9,000

Work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a post shifts, a gate goes out of square, or the concrete fails within a year of install, we come back and correct it at no charge. The guarantee is in writing and in your hand the day we finish.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Walk the line with a level on each post. Look for the gap between concrete and wood, soil pulling away from the collar after rain, or a gate that binds. Mark the bad posts with tape. That’s useful information when you call us, and it helps you understand the quote.

Where DIY goes wrong in Dallas is the dig. Pulling a concrete-wrapped post out of North Texas clay with a shovel and a come-along is a two-day fight that usually ends with a broken post and a hole you can’t keep square. And if the fence is on a shared property line, the post you dig up might not be yours to touch without surveying. If you want to attempt a single post re-set, we’ll tell you exactly what it takes and sell you the right mix. But most Dallas homeowners hand it to us after the first post fight. Call (903) 326-8963 for a free estimate, and we’ll tell you straight what it costs before any work starts.
