Sakrete Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Sakrete fence installation in Dallas typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full post-setting and panel job, depending on linear footage, soil conditions, and whether we’re pulling old concrete or starting fresh. We stock Sakrete fast-setting concrete mix on our trucks for fence post work, and we can usually have a crew out within a few days of your call to (903) 326-8963. Most Dallas homeowners find us the same way: they set posts themselves with bagged mix, the posts shifted after the first hard rain, and now the gate drags or the panel pulls away from the post.

The North Texas clay soil is the real culprit behind most Sakrete fence failures. It expands when wet and contracts during dry spells, which puts lateral pressure on post footings. If the mix wasn’t tamped correctly or the hole wasn’t deep enough, that movement becomes visible within a season or two. We see it in Lakewood, Preston Hollow, and every older Dallas neighborhood where the soil has been settling for decades.

Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Sakrete doesn’t make fence panels or posts. It makes the bagged concrete and fast-setting mixes that hold those posts in the ground. The products we work with most often are Sakrete Fast-Setting Concrete Mix, Sakrete High-Strength Concrete Mix, and Sakrete Fence Post Mix, which is formulated specifically for post-setting without premixing. The compatibility question isn’t about matching a Sakrete part number to your fence. It’s about matching the right Sakrete product to your post material, hole diameter, and the Dallas soil you’re dealing with.

Here’s the gotcha most Dallas homeowners miss: Sakrete Fence Post Mix is designed for the dry-pour method, meaning you pour it into the hole around the post and add water after. That works fine for wood posts in stable soil, but in gumbo clay it can leave air pockets if you don’t soak it evenly. For steel posts or any post carrying a gate, we prefer Sakrete Fast-Setting Concrete Mix, mixed wet before it goes in the hole. It sets in about 40 minutes and holds up better under repeated gate cycles. The bag label states the coverage per post at standard hole diameters, usually a 50-pound bag per 4-inch by 4-inch post in a 6-inch hole, but we calculate per-post based on actual depth and width on site, not off the label.

Bradford Remodeling Co Dallas is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Sakrete. We use their products because they’re consistent and available locally, but any warranty on Sakrete’s mix itself sits with the manufacturer. Our workmanship warranty is separate and written on every job.

Signs Your Sakrete Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean of more than a few degrees. This is almost always a footing problem, not a panel problem. The concrete plug may be intact but undersized for the soil pressure, or it cracked underground where you can’t see it. In Dallas clay, a 2-foot hole sounds deep until the dry season pulls moisture out and the surrounding soil lets go.
  • Concrete heaving above grade. When you see the Sakrete plug rising out of the lawn around the post, the footing is being pushed from below. That’s freeze-thaw movement or expansive clay swelling. The post is no longer anchored the way it was on day one.
  • Gate sag or drag on the latch side. A gate post takes more torsional load than any other post in the fence. If the footing wasn’t over-excavated and set wider than the line posts, the gate post will rotate inside the concrete collar over time. You’ll see a hairline crack in the concrete around the base when this starts.
  • Visible cracking in the concrete collar at grade. A clean, uncracked collar means the footing is holding. Spider cracks at the surface usually mean the concrete was mixed too wet, but cracks that run through the full collar mean the post is moving inside it and the Sakrete has lost its grip.
  • Fence panel separation at the rails. When two adjacent posts drift in different directions, the rails pull out of the panel frames or split at the fastener points. Homeowners often patch the panel, but the post footing is what’s failing underneath.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Sakrete fence installation in Dallas, our written price lands between $3,500 and $9,000. A typical job covers pulling old posts, digging new holes to the correct depth for the soil type (usually 24 to 36 inches in Dallas clay), setting posts in Sakrete Fast-Setting or Fence Post Mix, hanging panels, and hauling away the old material. The range moves based on total linear feet, how many gates are involved, whether concrete from old footings has to be broken out, and the panel material you’re reusing or replacing.

Scope Typical Dallas Price Range
Reset 1-3 failing posts (Sakrete only) $350 – $1,100
Full fence post replacement with Sakrete $1,800 – $4,500
Complete fence installation (posts, panels, gates) $3,500 – $9,000

Every quote is a written line-item price before work starts. You’ll see exactly what the Sakrete material costs, what the labor is, and what the site cleanup includes. No number moves at the door. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the full installation for one year from job close. If a post shifts or a panel pulls loose inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Setting a fence post with Sakrete is not inherently dangerous the way working on electrical or gas lines is, so a confident homeowner can absolutely reset a single post on a Saturday. The part where Dallas DIY jobs go sideways is compression. A bag of Sakrete needs proper tamping in lifts around the post, and if you’re working in clay, the hole diameter matters more than the bag instructions suggest. We’ve pulled plenty of “set” posts that were rocking because the concrete was poured like cake batter and left to cure around air gaps.

Where we’d draw the line is anything involving a full fence line, a gate post, or soil that’s already failed once. Those need a post-hole digger that can get below the active clay layer, a way to haul off the old concrete, and a crew that can keep the line straight while the mix sets. If you’re replacing more than a few posts, give us a call at (903) 326-8963 for a written estimate. We’ll tell you what it costs before anything gets dug.
