Sterling Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Sterling fence installation across a typical Dallas residential property runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, which includes materials, concrete footing work, gate hardware, and cleanup. We stock Sterling-compatible posts, panels, brackets, and gate kits on our trucks, so most Dallas jobs are quoted in one visit and installed within the week. The usual call starts the same way: a homeowner finds a post leaning after a storm, or a gate that won’t latch because the post it’s mounted to has shifted in Texas clay soil. Whatever failed on your fence line, you want it matched to the right Sterling spec and priced before the crew shows up. That’s how we work.

Before we get into models and costs, one thing up front: Bradford Remodeling Co Dallas is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Sterling or its parent brands. What we do is stock and install their fence systems because they hold up in Dallas weather, and because we can get exact replacements when a section fails instead of telling you to live with a patch job.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s fence line in Dallas mostly comes down to two product families: the vinyl privacy series (solid-tongue-and-groove panels, typically 6 ft tall, in white or tan) and the aluminum spear-top and flat-top series for drive gates, pool enclosures, and property lines where code requires visibility. The compatibility gotcha most owners miss: Sterling vinyl posts are routed for a specific panel thickness, either 1.5-inch or 2-inch tongue boards. A 2-inch panel will not seat correctly in a 1.5-inch post route without shaving the tongue, which voids the water-shedding design and shortens the fence’s life. We’ve corrected enough of those mismatches to know it’s the most common source of repeat failures on Sterling lines in Dallas.

How to identify your fence: look inside the post cap or on the underside of a horizontal rail. Sterling molds a series stamp into the vinyl, usually a letter code followed by a two-digit width. If the stamp is gone, measure the post width (standard is 4×4 or 5×5) and the panel tongue thickness. That tells us whether you need OEM Sterling stock or a true-spec aftermarket equivalent. For most Dallas installs, OEM posts and brackets are worth the money. Aftermarket panels from a reputable extruder can save 15 to 20 percent, and we’ll tell you honestly when they’re a good call and when they aren’t.

Signs Your Sterling Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean at the gate line. Dallas clay swells in wet months and shrinks in August. A post set in less than 24 inches of concrete will move first at the gate, where the weight is concentrated. The fix is a new hole, new concrete, and re-hanging the gate on true plumb posts.
  • Panel sag between posts. Sterling panels are engineered to span a set distance, usually 6 to 8 feet. When a previous installer stretched the span to save a post, the panel’s bottom rail bows and the top rail cracks at the bracket. You can’t repair that cleanly; the section gets replaced.
  • Gate drags along its arc. This reads like a hinge problem but it’s usually the post the hinges are bolted to, not the hardware. If the post has moved even half an inch, no hinge adjustment will save it.
  • White powder or hairline cracks at rail ends. UV and thermal cycling in the North Texas sun are real. OEM Sterling vinyl carries a warranty, but a crack at the rail end means the panel was cut too tight and expanded against the bracket. That’s an installation fault, not a material fault.
  • Any section that rattles in a hard wind. A properly set Sterling fence is quiet. If a panel hums or knocks during the storms we get off the Red River corridor, the brackets have lost their bite or the post fill was never fully cured. Either way, the section is loosening.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A powder room with botanical wallpaper and a stone sink

For a typical Dallas residential fence project on a standard lot, you’re looking at:

  • Full vinyl privacy fence, 150 – 200 linear feet: $3,500 – $9,000 installed
  • Gate-only replacement with new posts and hardware: $800 – $2,200 installed
  • Section repair (1 – 2 panels, one post): $450 – $1,500 installed
  • Post-only reset, including new concrete and inspection: $300 – $650 per post

What drives the number: linear footage, gate count, post hole conditions (Dallas black clay digs differently than the sandy loam out east of Mesquite), and whether the existing holes can be reused. Every quote is a written line-item price before we start. No number moves at the door. The installed work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if your fence fails inside a year of installation due to our work, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on the quote, signed before the first hole is dug.

DIY or Call Us?

Fence installation is not a high-tension job like a garage door spring, but it will hurt you if a gate post falls wrong or a panel catches the wind while you’re setting it. What you can safely do yourself: clear the fence line, mark sprinkler lines, and take photos of the stamp codes we mentioned above. What goes wrong DIY: mixing concrete too wet for Dallas soil, setting posts without a level in both planes, and assuming all Sterling panels are interchangeable. They’re not, as the tongue-thickness issue above shows. If you’d rather know the number and the scope before you touch anything, call (903) 326-8963. We’ll send a technician who can identify the exact Sterling spec, measure the run, and hand you a written quote on the spot.
