Wellborn Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We install and repair Wellborn-compatible driveway and paver systems throughout Dallas, with paver driveway installation typically running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and paver grade. Most homeowners discover a failing paver system the hard way: a low spot that pools water after a Dallas thunderstorm, a paver that rocks underfoot near the garage apron, or an edge course that’s started to wander into the lawn. You’ll also see sand washing out of the joints after heavy rain, which tells you the bedding layer is eroding underneath.
Bradford Remodeling Co Dallas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Wellborn. We work with Wellborn-specified hardscape components and match them to Belgard and Unilock paver systems already on the ground across Dallas neighborhoods like Lakewood, Preston Hollow, and East Dallas.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn’s hardscape line covers three primary paver profiles: the 4×8-inch Holland stone, the 6×9-inch modular rectangle, and the larger 12×12-inch patio slab. The Holland stone is the most common on older Dallas driveways, especially homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s. The modular rectangle shows up more on newer builds in the northern suburbs. The 12×12 slab is almost exclusively a patio or walkway product, rarely spec’d for vehicle traffic.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners miss: Wellborn pavers are manufactured in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses. The 60mm is rated for pedestrian use and light patios. The 80mm is the vehicular-grade paver. If you’re replacing driveway sections, you cannot swap an 80mm paver out for a 60mm paver and expect it to hold under a pickup or SUV. We check the thickness on every single job before quoting, because mixing the two grades is how you end up with sunken tire tracks six months later.
Flip over any loose paver. The manufacturer stamp is on the bottom face. If the stamp has worn off, we measure the paver height with a caliper on site. That measurement tells us the grade, and the grade tells us whether we’re pulling from OEM Wellborn stock or a quality aftermarket equivalent from Belgard or Unilock. For driveway applications, we spec OEM or the Belgard equivalent, because the compressive strength ratings are documented and match the original load spec. Aftermarket pavers without a documented PSI rating are a gamble on a driveway, and we won’t put a gamble under your car.

Signs Your Wellborn Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sand washing from joints after every rain. The polymeric sand or joint sand has failed, and water is now channeling under the pavers. In Dallas clay soil, that water sits and softens the base, which leads to settlement. This is the earliest warning sign and the cheapest one to fix.
- A paver that rocks or clicks when you step on it. The bedding sand underneath has migrated or compacted unevenly. One rocking paver is an annoyance. Ten rocking pavers mean the base layer is shifting, and you’ll start seeing cracks in the pavers themselves within a season.
- Low spots that hold water for more than an hour after rain. Dallas gets its rain in bursts, and a properly graded paver driveway should shed water within minutes. Standing water means the base has settled unevenly or the original grade was cut too flat. Left alone, those low spots freeze-spall in winter and grow wider every year.
- Edge courses spreading into the lawn or flower beds. The edge restraint has failed, usually because it was never pinned properly or the original installer used plastic edging instead of aluminum or concrete restraint. Once the edge lets go, the whole field starts drifting, and the repair is far more involved than resetting a few pavers.
- Hairline cracks running through multiple pavers in a line. This is a base failure, not a paver failure. The cracked pavers are just the symptom. You’re looking at a section tear-out, base recompaction, and reinstall. Cracks through individual pavers with no line pattern usually mean a point load issue, like a jack stand or a dropped tool.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full paver driveway replacement in Dallas, our installed price runs $7,000 – $18,000. Smaller repair work, like pulling and resetting a 200-square-foot section with new bedding sand and joint sand, generally lands between $1,500 and $4,000 depending on access and whether the base layer needs recompaction. A full tear-out that requires new gravel base, geotextile fabric, and re-grading will push toward the top of the range.
What drives the number: paver grade (80mm vehicular runs higher than 60mm), base condition, access for equipment, and whether we’re matching an existing pattern or starting fresh. Drainage corrections, like adding a channel drain or re-grading the apron, add cost but they’re sometimes the only way to stop the problem from returning. Every quote we write in Dallas includes parts, labor, haul-away, base compaction, joint sand, and a written scope with a fixed price. No numbers that move at the door.
The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the full job, not just the pavers. If the base settles, the joints fail, or the edge walks within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. You get that in writing before we start. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s the same standard we hold on every driveway, patio, and hardscape project we run in Dallas.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver work is not high-tension dangerous like a garage spring, but it will hurt you in other ways. A paver weighs 15 to 25 pounds depending on grade. Moving a hundred of them by hand is a legitimate back injury waiting to happen, and the base work requires a plate compactor, which will also rattle your fillings out if you run it wrong. The bigger risk is doing the job well enough to look fine for six months, then watching it fail because the base wasn’t compacted to spec or the edge restraint wasn’t pinned.
What you can safely do: clean the joints, check for standing water after rain, and mark the pavers that rock or crack so you can show us exactly what you’re seeing. What you shouldn’t do: pry up pavers without understanding what’s underneath. Dallas clay expands and contracts with moisture, and a DIY patch that ignores the base will look worse than the original problem by next spring.

FAQs

A properly installed Wellborn 80mm paver driveway in Dallas lasts 25 to 40 years, with the paver itself outlasting the base layer in most cases. The weak point is always the base and joint sand, not the paver. In Dallas clay, a poorly compacted base can fail in 5 to 8 years even with good pavers. Call (903) 326-8963 and we’ll tell you if your base is the problem or if the pavers are still worth saving.
Yes, a section repair is usually possible if the base under the rest of the driveway is sound. We’ll pull the affected area, recompact the base, add fresh bedding sand, and reset the pavers with new joint sand. The repaired section should blend within a season of sun exposure. If the base failure extends across most of the driveway, a patch becomes a band-aid and we’ll tell you that directly. Call (903) 326-8963 for an exact assessment.
A typical full paver driveway replacement takes us 3 to 5 working days from tear-out to final compaction and joint sand. Weather in Dallas can stretch that window, especially in spring storm season, but we set the schedule in writing before we start and we hold to it. Smaller section repairs are often done in a single day. Call (903) 326-8963 and we’ll give you a firm timeline with your written estimate.
We carry Wellborn-spec pavers and Belgard equivalents in stock for the most common Dallas profiles, including the 4×8 Holland stone and the 6×9 modular rectangle. If your specific color or profile is discontinued, we source a documented match and show you the manufacturer spec before any work begins. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the interior side, so we’re set up to handle hardscape and cabinet work through one crew. Call (903) 326-8963 and we’ll confirm stock on your paver profile before you commit to anything.
